Weekly Classes

FOR AGES 6-8: 9 weekly one-hour classes
Tuition $250
SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL: INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Saturdays, 10/15-12/10, 9-10am
Instructor: Lisa Rowe-Beddoe
How many different ways do you already move? This class makes students aware of their own movement vocabulary and then adds to it with many new ways of moving!
CREATIVE DRAMATICS: THE MAGIC OF STORIES
Saturdays, 10/15-12/10, 10-11am
Instructor: Lisa Rowe-Beddoe
This class focuses on dramatizing children’s literature. Students will bring simple, clear stories to the stage, and connect to WFT’s The Phantom Tollbooth. First and foremost, the goal is to have fun!

FOR AGES 9-11: 9 weekly one-hour classes
Tuition $250
INTRODUCTION TO ACTING
Saturdays, 10/15-12/10, 9-10am
Instructor: Danny Bolton
What are the essential elements of acting? Students will build characters and scenes, including from The Phantom Tollbooth, and explore self-expression through games and exercises.
COMEDY JAM
Saturdays, 10/15-12/10, 10-11am
Instructor: Dana Jay Bein
What’s funny, what’s not, and why? Students will explore the true nature of comedy through voice, physicality, timing and more!
IMPROVISATION
Tuesdays, 10/18-12/13, 4-5pm
Instructor: Beth Peters
An introduction to the ABC’s of improvisation. Students will learn to think quickly and imaginatively on the spot and gain self-confidence on and off the stage – all while having a great time!

SHAKESPEARE AND STAGE COMBAT
Saturdays, 11/12-12/10, 11am-1pm
Instructors: Lisa Rowe-Beddoe, Angie Jepson
This class approaches Shakespeare through the fantastic duels and battles he wrote. A fun, dynamic way to engage with Shakespeare’s characters through action and emotion!
BROADWAY DANCE
Saturdays, 11/12-12/10, 11am-1pm
Instructor: Robin Connors
Learn to dance with the stars! Focuses on the development of various dance techniques, with special emphasis on styles used in Broadway shows.
ACTING: SCENE STUDY
Wednesdays, 11/16-12/14, 4-6pm
Instructor: Danny Bolton
For students seeking to further develop their acting techniques. Focuses on building characterization and text-analysis skills while rehearsing scenes from plays.

ACTING FOR THE CAMERA
Mondays, 10/17-11/21, 4-6pm
Instructor: M. Lynda Robinson
How is acting in film different from acting onstage? This class introduces a cinematic approach to performance skills and addresses resumes, headshots and auditions, too!

NEW! CREATIVE DRAMATICS:

MOVEMENT AND DRAMA FOR CHILDREN ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM
8 weekly 90-minute classes
For grades 1-3: Fridays, 10/21-12/16, 4-5:30pm
For grades 4-6: Thursdays, 10/20-12/15, 4-5:30pm
Instructors: Jen Buller, Lisa Rowe-Beddoe, Beth Peters
This drama class is dedicated to accommodating the needs of children with Asperger’s Syndrome and related challenges. Using a peer partner model, students are asked to invite a similarly-aged friend, with whom they have a positive connection, to join them in class for each session. Together, we will explore movement vocabulary, spatial awareness and acting fundamentals through the dramatization of stories.

Families interested in this program are invited to a special sneak peek at WFT on Saturday, 10/15/11, from 1-2:30pm; an opportunity to visit the space, meet the teachers, and sample some drama exercises. For more information about this program only, please contact Beth Peters: wftfamily@gmail.com
